- Astronaut photos from May 10, 2026, show Tyndall Glacier in southern Chile calving many ice fragments that float across Lago Geikie. - The Southern Patagonian Icefield feeds Tyndall; Lago Geikie formed around 1940 as the glacier retreated. - Tyndall has thinned and retreated about 2.2 km since November 2022, with major calving in 2023 and active calving in 2026. - Shadow measurements from the image indicate the glacier front stood ~30–40 m above the lake surface in May 2026. - Glaciologist Mauri Pelto expects continued production of many small icebergs in the near term.
