Hubble Sees Swarm of Galaxies

- Hubble imaged the galaxy cluster MACS0329-0211, producing a dense field of galaxies resembling a “swarm.” - The view shows large elliptical galaxies as well as spiral and lenticular galaxies, some edge-on and some face-on. - Faint, curved arcs in the upper-right and distorted central features are gravitationally lensed background galaxies magnified by the cluster’s mass. - Observations used Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys and Wide Field Camera 3 as part of a program targeting X-ray–bright galaxy clusters.
