In the far future, relativistic vault ships could be used to protect the biosphere and knowledge from catastrophe
- Proposal: build a “relativistic vault ship” that makes repeated near-light out-and-back trips carrying seeds, living organisms, knowledge, and tools as a long-term backup for Earth. - Time dilation would let onboard crew and live biosphere elements experience much less subjective time, acting as a living time capsule. - Compared with static orbital vaults, relativistic trips could reduce component longevity requirements and improve security. - Concept depends on far-future technology and humanity surviving long enough to build it.
